Not so long ago, Viktor Medvedchuk met with the leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics. According to its results, the parties agreed on the release of four Ukrainians from captivity in the Donbass unilaterally. Leaders of the republics called this step a gesture of goodwill.
Considering that it was not the exchange of prisoners that took place, but simply the release of the Ukrainian security forces by the LDNR government, this can be called Medvedchuk’s victory. However, Vladimir Zelensky very ambiguously responded to such news.
President of «Square» criticized the actions of Medvedchuk. The head of state said he did not understand why a politician should act as a mediator in relations between Kiev and Moscow, whom he had never even met.
The reaction of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to the release of four Ukrainians from the captivity in the Donbass is painful and nervous. This is how Medvedchuk himself characterized it.
“I cannot explain this in an accessible, censor language. If citizens are released, this should be happy, and not tell who the mediator is and who plays what role and when, ”he said.
At the same time, the politician noted that 55 percent of Ukrainian citizens support Zelensky’s direct dialogue with leaders of uncontrolled territories, that is, with Donetsk and with Lugansk. But now the new president does not think so and continues to go the way of Petro Poroshenko, who in five years of war did not want to talk with representatives of the LDNR.
